Auxetics are extraordinary materials that become fatter when stretched and thinner when compressed.  Helical Auxetic Yarn (HAY) has groundbreaking opportunities in textiles, composites, and is under development for body armor, blast mitigation, health care, filtration and aerospace.  Materials which employ Auxetics are expected to have mechanical properties such as high energy absorption and fracture resistance.  Auxetic fabrics may be interwoven with other materials (fiber optics, sensors, etc. ) to address specific issues for custom applications.
